EFT and back pain

I just read an article on Mercola.com regarding over-use of Opiod drugs in respect to back pain specifically.  This is moving in a different direction than I have in the past on this blog, but I think it's worth a look in this direction today.

I have suffered lower back pain for pretty well as long as I can remember.  Becoming an aunt at the age of 5 and loving to carry around my baby nice long before I was even 50 pounds myself probably didn't start me off on the right foot for a healthy back.  I suppose the free-flow water bed I slept in most of my childhood wasn't much help either, in hindsight. As an adult working as a nurse in a hospital, with labouring mothers with epidurals and helping with breastfeeding post-birth proved to be just short of back-breaking work for me.  For years I came home, curled up in the fetal position and popped Ibuprofen, because I refused to get caught in the opioid web.  This only got worse as I had children.  Pregnancy was months on end of awful back pain, and all I could do was attempt to relieve it with ridiculous attempts at the fetal position.  I caved occasionally and took Tylenol, but for the most part, I was on my hands and knees, pelvic tilting, and sitting in a squat position.  It wasn't all bad though, all my contorting to try and find relief for my back pain in pregnancy lead to easy and very manageable labour and deliveries.  After all the pain in pregnancy, with an end in sight, labour was a truly joyous time. (imagine that!!)

I have a herniated disc in my lower back that bulges both ventrally and dorsally, providing plenty of opportunity for exploration of pain-relieving techniques.  In the end, it has proven most helpful to NOT be lifting moms with epidurals, or even my own small children, as they are now firmly on their own feet.

These days I really do suffer very little back pain, and I attribute the improvement to my children getting bigger and requiring less physical effort from mom, and the fact that I am able to move about when I need to.  I have also noticed that since working diligently in EFT I am able to do things I never would have been able to do previously, without any additional planning or effort on my part.  For example, we had a school function last spring that required me to stand and serve pasta for nearly 2 hours.  Previously there is no way I could have done this, without being in excruciating pain.  At the one hour mark I noted that I was getting uncomfortable, but it was very bearable. I did a covert tap when the spaghetti line died down and was able to make it the rest of the time with very minimal to no discomfort.  Comparing this with even a few months earlier, I couldn't believe the improvement.  Dr. Mercola says "Your central nervous system "remembers" any pain that lasts more than a few minutes at the neuronal level."  This is where EFT comes in.  It is possible, and actually even quite simple to re-wire the way our nervous system works.  It's the only explanation I have for how I got to a full hour of standing still in one spot with only minimal discomfort.

When I do have a rough day, there are a few things I routinely turn to that make a world of difference.  EFT is on my front line defense.  Essential oils are right up there with them.  My personal theory is that the oils help transmit the energy/impulses we work with in EFT, making them the perfect happy couple!  Of course exercise, diet and a healthy lifestyle are incredibly important.  I think however, that we underestimate how affected our physical bodies are by our emotional health. Both essential oils and EFT can make an enormous difference in our emotional well-being, which can only lead to improved physical health as well.

You are MORE than the sum of your physical parts.  Please know that if you are suffering with back pain, like so many people are these days, you have the RIGHT as a patient to make an informed decision.  Ask questions of your doctor before filling a prescription.  The statistics are staggering; now prescription opioids are responsible for more drug overdose deaths in the US than heroin and cocaine today.

Please, get a drink, sit down and take the time to read through this article HERE.  Even if you don't currently suffer from back pain, there is a very good chance that someday you will...and you might as well have this information ready when you need it!
