Peppermint and Orange

Peppermint and Orange are a great blend to diffuse on sticky summer days.

The Orange is an uplifting scent and also calming.
The Peppermint is cooling and is a great one to help keep energized and focused.

Together they make a fantastic pair to diffuse.

I usually use 1-2 drops of Peppermint with 3-4 drops of orange.
The kids and I both love the scent. It keeps everyone ready to move, but calm at the same time.
Love it!

Sarah's Massage Oil

I have recently discovered that my eight year old daughter is a massage prodigy
...if you provide her with ample oil to drip and slather all over your back.
;0)

We decided to work together to make a mild massage oil that would help ease tension
and smell nice too.

This is what we finally settled on.  You can absolutely play with quantity,
or swap the whole mess of essential oils out and start anew, but for now we like this one.

It's not overpowering, because it's very dilute, and the Ylang Ylang sweetens it a bit and the Peppermint is always a fantastic smell.  I wanted the Cedarwood for something a bit woodsy, and Copaiba is there for the relief I feel from it.  Frank made it to the party "because the wise men brought it to baby Jesus, so we should put that in too".

I am planning to do a massage oil blend monthly and post them in the first week of each month, so make sure you're checking back if you're interested in formulating your own massage oil blends.

For August, we'll start out with Sarah's Massage Oil Blend.

In a 1 ounce bottle, filled nearly to the top with a carrier oil
such as FCO (fractionated coconut oil)
add the following:

5 drops Cedarwood
5 drops Ylang Ylang
5 drops Frankincense
10 drops Peppermint
15 drops Copaiba

Replace the drop reducer, add the cap and invert repeatedly to blend.

As with most blends I make I find they do improve over time,....or maybe they just grow on me. ;)

Find the nearest 8 year old girl willing to drip this all over your back and rub it in good.

Enjoy!

Sarah's Creamsicle Perfume

My eight year old daughter, Sarah is a bit fussy about our oils.
She knows they work, and asks me regularly for an oil (or clay) for bug bites, but she is a bit picky when it comes to the scents.

Because she knows how well they work for her, she doesn't complain about using them on her feet or on a bug bite, but she's not fond of wearing any as a 'perfume', preferring (much to mom's frustration) a regular old perfume full of nasty chemicals.

In an attempt to find a scent she loves enough to wear like a perfume, we set to sniffing bottles together.  It really didn't take very long to settle on a personalized blend for her.

We started out with orange, because she does love the scent of it, and we often diffuse it at night for her.  She thought it should smell just a bit more mellow though for a perfume, and she thought she wanted to smell like a creamsicle. lol

I pulled out my Vanilla 10 fold from New Directions.  Young Living does not have a vanilla oil available for purchase right now, though vanilla is in the Stress Away blend, so perhaps sometime again I will be able to get it as a single in the future.  For now, this does the trick!

We used an empty 15mL bottle after using up every last wee bit of the original oil in some bath salts.

We filled it nearly full with fractionated coconut oil, and then added about 30 drops of Orange and about 10 drops of the vanilla 10 fold.  This can be played with to your liking.

It is smelling nicer as time passes and the scents blend a bit.
I don't have sandalwood, but if I did, I would love to know what a few drops of that
would bring to orange!

It's a very soft scent, lovely for making a little girl (and her little sister puppy) feel like princesses
without spraying on a load of alcohol and a bunch of other chemicals.

Do you have special home-blends that you custom make yourself to use as a personal scent?
If so, please share them with us in the comments section!

DIY Bath Salts..No waste!

This has been shared before, but it's something I do every time I empty a bottle of my Young Living Essential Oils, and I thought it worthy of a quick post.

I'm not a fan of waste, especially if it wastes something as dear to me as my oils are!

Each time I empty a bottle of oil to the point that I can't get any more drops out, I take the drop reducer out of the bottle and put it in a glass jar, then pour some epsom salts about half way up the jar (you could use pink Himalayan salts as well) into the jar.  I make sure to pop the drop reducer in (the little whitish plastic part that allows the oil to come through a drop at a time), and the lid in the jar as well.  Then I top up to cover the lid and reducer.
Give it a bit of a shake.
(This is the reason I don't fill it to the top.  You can't shake the contents if there's no room to move!)

In here I have a Valor and  in the jar on the left is a Citrus Fresh

Leave them to 'marinade' at least 24 hours for best results.
If you like, you can absolutely add baking soda to the epsom salts in a 1:1 ratio before pouring over the bottle.

Make sure you get the bottle filled with salts, so they absorb all the oil!

I usually hold the bottle, lid and reducer under the running tap in the tub while filling to completely rinse them, then dump the salts in.

Your bottles can then be scrubbed with some dish soap and water and dried before re-filling with your own home made blends or dilutions that are ready to use.

Stay tuned for some blends we have made at our house in the coming days!
