Waking up with Ningxia NITRO to combat seasonal allergies

Yesterday I shared a chia 'bubble tea' recipe with you, and today I'm going to share my Ningxia NITRO drink that I made.  It was really, very refreshing and yummy, and it helps combat
seasonal allergies!

Here's a shot of the ingredients...

I used about a teaspoon of raw local honey to sweeten it up a bit.  I just love seeing Mr. Kemper at the St. Jacob's Farmer's Market, and I always make sure to pick up a jar of his delicious wild flower honey.  I have heard customers ask him if he has clover honey, or buckwheat, or what ever kind of honey they're looking for many, many times.  It always makes me smile to hear his response.   He invariably answers that he only sells this wild flower honey, because the bees don't ever tell him where they've been and he never tells them where to go. lol

Here's Mr. Kemper selling his honey at market.  I buy my bee pollen and beeswax from him as well.  One day I'll share a recipe I make for a fantastic salve with his bee products!

In fact, there is likely a large part clover in this honey, as it really reminds me of other clover honeys I've had.  But I'm glad he doesn't boss the bees around. :)

I have had really almost no seasonal allergies this year, and I credit that in large part to Mr. Kempers' honey...and my lemon, lavender and peppermint oils.  And perhaps a bit to that pretty bottle of lavender hand and body lotion you see in the top photo as well.  (Don't worry, that's NOT an ingredient in the drink!)

The recipe:
1 teaspoon (or to taste) local to you honey (If you're in my area, I highly recommend a trip to the St. Jacob's farmer's market for some local raw honey.  There are several producers that sell there, but I have a special place in my heart for Mr. Kemper, so I almost always buy from him.)
3 drops Lemon YLEO *(Young Living Essential Oil)
2 drops Lavender YLEO
1 drop Peppermint YLEO
1 tube of Ningxia NITRO

I add the honey to the glass first, and then with a spoon stir in the essential oils before adding the Ningxia NITRO and topping it off with water.

It's cooling and refreshing and delicious!

If I don't have the Ningxia NITRO on hand, or if I need a super quick boost, I'll put a drop or two of each of those oils in a BIG spoonful of Mr. Kemper's honey, and take it straight.

It's yummy, and really helps with the allergies.  If an itchy throat is a part of your allergy picture it's really soothing to take the honey straight with the oils mixed in with a toothpick.

Chia and Slique for a healthy body

Chia seed is one of those 'super foods' you have likely read a lot about.

Have you ever tried them?

I find them weird, and yet oddly addicting in a drink.  Generally I will soak a few teaspoons or so in coconut water or juice and add them to a smoothie, and they go pretty well undetected, but today I decided to make a 'bubble tea' of sorts with them.

I love bubble tea, but here in Canada it can be really tricky to find those great big tapioca pearls, and I've NEVER found the black pearls here....ever.  I will keep looking, but for now, I'll make do with chia bubble tea, because I know it packs a serious health punch, and I can source chia easily.  I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking this drink pictured below is going to be comparable with bubble tea you might order at your favourite smoothie place. But even if you can get your favourite bubble tea easily, I still suggest you give this a go....it's refreshing on a hot day, and soooo good for you!

This is a really hydrating, protein rich light drink that is a fantastic source of energy.

Make sure you give your chia at least 5-10 minutes to soak and find its jelly before you start sipping though!

In here is a heaping tablespoon of chia seeds, with about 5 drops of Young Living Slique dripped onto the chia.  Then I just added icy cold water from the fridge and let it sit about 5-10 minutes until I stirred it all up.  I have a hard time getting more than one gulp down without stopping to chew on the seeds though. It sure slows down the time it takes me to finish it off!

Slique Essence from Young Living:

Slique Essence combines grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, spearmint, and ocotea with stevia extract in a unique blend that supports healthy weight management goals. These ingredients work together to help control hunger*, especially when used in conjunction with Slique Tea or the Slique Kit. The pleasant citrus combination of grapefruit, tangerine, and lemon essential oils adds a flavorful and uplifting element to any day with the added support of spearmint that may help with digestion.* Ocotea essential oil adds an irresistible, cinnamon-like aroma to help control hunger, while stevia adds an all-natural sweetener that provides a pleasant taste with no added calories.

Slique Essence and Chia together are a great way to get started on the early summer slim-down if you're a little behind on that, like I am this year.

From MEDICAL NEWS TODAY

Nutritional breakdown of chia seeds

According to the USDA National Nutrient Database, one ounce of chia seeds (approximately 28 grams) contains 138calories, 8 grams of fat, 12 grams of carbohydrate, 10 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein.
Eating one ounce of chia seeds per day would provide 18% of daily calcium needs, 27% of phosphorus, 30% of manganese and smaller amounts of potassium, zinc and copper.
When compared to flaxseed, chia seeds provide more omega-3s, calcium, phosphorus and fiber - all essential nutrients that most people are not getting enough of.

So, do you Chia?  If so, do you do anything special with it?

Canadian Young Living Premium Starter Kits

EDIT **As of July 8, 2015 the Canadian Premium Starter kits are still with both Valor and Peace & Calming.**   Sign up now to get these fantastic oils while you still can!  See the bottom of my post for more details and please forward any questions to thepureoil@gmail.comthepureoil@gmail.com

The Young Living Premium Starter Kit

In the US the Premium Starter kit has substitutions for both Valor and Peace and Calming right now, as they are currently out of stock for ordering, and have run out of the pre-made Premium Starter Kits.

HOWEVER...In Canada the Premium Starter Kits STILL CONTAIN Valor and Peace and Calming, until these kits run out, at which time Young Living will replace both of these oils with substitutes.

I just had a new member of my team receive his kit, and the Valor and P&C are both still in the everyday oils collection box. :)

This is fantastic news!  Valor is definitely one of my top oils, I'd even say in my top 3.  I can't be without it, so I'm really looking forward to the fall when it comes available again. Valor is all about balancing, calming, excellent for anxiety and stress. Peace and Calming is invaluable as well.  I use it when I have to leave my anxious fur baby at home alone.  Just one drop in my palm, a finger dipped into the drop, and rubbed in each of his ears, and between his shoulder blades patted down his back with what remains in my hand.  He has a much easier time of it while we're all away.

A few things to know about Young Living:

1. They will NOT compromise on purity or quality.
2. They will NOT ever purchase through a broker, so they can ensure the quality and purity of their oils.
3. Some oils will on occasion be out of stock, due to seasonal availability or environmental factors that cause shortages.  This is the case in point for Valor and Peace and Calming.  They are both VERY popular blends, and Young Living sells a lot of them.  They also both contain BLUE TANSY. Unfortunately last season their Blue Tansy crop in Morocco was wiped out due to flooding, and as a result these blends are currently not available.  They do make suggestions on alternatives, but if you are wanting the real thing, and you live in Canada and are not yet a member, signing up and ordering the Premium Starter Kit is the way to get them, even though they can't be ordered on the site!  This is a testament to their commitment to using only the VERY BEST quality oils available.  If they were willing to compromise on quality they wouldn't run out, because they'd be buying through brokers; but the quality wouldn't be there. It's bitter sweet, but I'm much happier to know that I'm always getting the highest quality oils!

This Sunny Sunday morning I wanted to share with you a coffee creamer recipe I just whipped up.

In general I work really hard to keep a healthy diet, but I'm human and I have my vices.  Coffee is one such vice.  I hate to admit it,
Add caption
but this is my coffee creamer of choice.

Fortunately for me, it hasn't been on sale in a long while, (I refuse to pay regular price when I know it's really not good for me lol) and I've run out, so I had to come up with something else.

My last formula was one I've seen regularly on Pinterest.  It consisted of Carnation milk and Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk. I added a splash of vanilla for added flavour.

Yesterday I ran out of that batch though.

So. this morning I went to the pantry to whip up another batch and realized I'd run out of regular Eagle Brand.  I think I bought this caramel stuff by mistake honestly, but it's what I had so I decided to embrace it.  Salted caramel coffee anyone?  How about a splash of nutmeg and hazelnut with that?

Now, I'm not pretending at all here that this is really a healthy alternative to that pre-made stuff  you see up there. But I'll call it a small nudge in the right direction.  Many mornings I do make myself a Bulletproof  coffee, and I really enjoy that too... but that's a post for another day, because this morning, this is what I had.

In the end this was my recipe, but it can be tweaked to your liking!
In a liter sized mason jar add:
One full can of Carnation Evaporated Milk
One full can of Eagle Brand Dulce de Leche Sweetened Condensed milk
5 drops of Sweet Leaf Sweet drops Hazelnut or to taste (or any other flavour)
5 or more drops of Sole to taste (more on this at the end)
1-3 drops of Young Living Nutmeg essential oil

Tightly screw on the lid and shake until it's all combined.  The fat in the milk emulsifies the essential oil, so it doesn't settle on top.

I had three drops drip out of my nutmeg bottle before I could stop it, so my batch has three drops, and it is nutmegy!!!  But I like it.  You could definitely still detect the nutmeg with just one to two drops for the entire batch of creamer.

In case you're not familiar with the Sweet Drops, it's a liquid Stevia product, and is a safe sweetener for diabetics as well. A few drops of this stuff goes a long way though, so start out with way less than you think you need, because it gets overpowering fast!  You'll likely find this at most health food stores, or the health food section of your grocer.

I imagine some of you will have questions about Sole.  It's pronounced "so-lay", and is very simply a salt brine.  I make it by dropping a large himalayan salt crystal in a 250 mL jam jar of distilled water. Just allow the water to dissolve the salt crystal until the water is saturated.  (Lets go back to grade school science for a minute!  This is to say that there should still be some solid salt visible at the bottom of your jar.  If there isn't, you're not done yet.  Add another salt crystal and allow it to dissolve.  In the end to have a saturated solution of distilled water and himalayan salt, you need to still see some solid salt at the bottom of the jar.)

I decant the saturated solution called sole into a dropper bottle for easier dispensing.  This doesn't require any refrigeration all that's in here is distilled water and pure crystal salt.

Some mornings if I'm up really early I'll start my morning with a glass of water with a few drops of sole in it.  It kick starts metabolism and balances electrolytes.  The quality of your salt is really important for this, so go with either himalayan crystal salt, or another salt you trust to be very pure. This isn't a job for regular old white table salt.

Speaking of electrolytes, a few drops of sole with some citrus fruit or cucumber slices or both in water is an A1 replacement for the PowerAde and Gatorades of the world!
Sure, it's not going to be Caribbean blue, or sunset red in colour, but it will actually NOURISH your body, providing the electrolytes and with the added infusion of fruits/veggies it even has vitamins too.  A much smarter choice to stay hydrated as we jump into summer!

Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy your coffee this morning, however you choose to have it!

Welcome to The Pure Oil! It's allergy season!

Welcome!

Here I will share how we use our Young Living Essential oils on a daily basis.
Feel free to check out my website ThePureOil.com to learn about not only Young Living oils, but also the energy healing work I do.

I settled on Young Living Essential Oils after LOADS of research, and I'm so glad I did!

Their Seed to Seal process greatly impressed me.  I have also found a Holistic Veterinarian who uses only Young Living Oils.  I wanted them for my whole family, not just the humans, and Young Living oils are pure enough to use on animals as well, and many of them can even be taken internally (by both humans and animals).  For all of these reasons I believed they were the right choice for my family, and we have proven that to be true on so many occasions already!

If you are interested in learning more, check back here often, and please always feel free to drop me a line!  You can reach me through my ThePureOil.com website contact us form.  I'm happy to answer any questions and I'd be delighted to help you get started with Young Living Essential Oils for you and your family!

It's allergy season!  My seasonal allergies have really improved in the past year, but this year, my almost 8 year old daughter started with a snuffly nose, and itchy eyes and throat that were driving her bonkers.  I know she wasn't sick because her energy was great, but she just couldn't stop the drippy nose and itchy eyes and throat.

I used a single drop of lavender oil with a few drops of carrier oil and rubbed it on the soles of both her feet before bed.  (The bonus is that lavender is excellent for promoting a good night's sleep too!) The next morning the itchy eyes and throat were all gone and the nose was only slightly running that day. We applied a single drop again that night, and by the next morning all traces of the irritation were completely GONE.  I was so pleased; I didn't expect it to work with that kind of speed.  We continued this regimen for about a week, and honestly, I haven't applied the Lavender to her in the past week or so, and she's still allergy free.  Maybe her allergen has run its course, or maybe her immune system has 'corrected' itself?  I'm not certain, but whatever the cause, I'm so happy we didn't have to suffer, and we didn't have to turn to allergy over the counter meds!

The other thing we've been doing regularly is diffusing a blend of Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint oils.  I generally use 2 drops of Lavender and 2-3 drops each of Lemon and Peppermint.

I do still diffuse this at least three times a week, mostly because we really enjoy the scent, but maybe this is part of the reason for her continued lack of annoying allergy symptoms.

To be perfectly honest, Lavender is NOT a scent I love in and of itself.  I know many people LOVE it, but I'm not one of them.  However, having said that, in this blend it smells amazing.  I prefer it with less Lavender than Peppermint and Lemon, but if you love Lavender I'd suggest trying equal parts of each.

One word of warning, I don't recommend trying any other brand of Lavender oil for this, especially if you are using it for children, animals or a pregnant or nursing mother.  There are reports that state that the reported Lavender Essential Oil exports from the European countries that supply the vast majority of it far exceed the reported production of Lavender oil.  This is specific to Lavender.  I had a bottle from a health food store years ago and had tried it for my own allergies at that time and it was completely ineffective.   They can only export more than they produce if the oils are adultered.  In a great case scenario this would mean simply that they were diluted with a quality carrier oil, but the consumer has no way of knowing, since labelling is really not regulated on essential oils and there can be harmful additives in there.  The problem is you just don't know unless you have the ability to test what comes in that bottle.

If you're using it as a scent alone, as you would perfume, by all means head to the health food store, save yourself some money and purchase the scents you love.  There's nothing at all wrong with that, and I have done that myself.  They won't be any more harmful than any perfume you will buy, and they're by far more cost effective than many perfumes!

However, if you are wanting essential oils for their therapeutic benefits, please value your family
enough to do your research.  I 100% stand by my Young Living Oils, they have not failed me yet!

I look forward to sharing with you so many ways that we use these oils.  I hope to keep you posted on research and Young Living updates.
